My Never Ending List

I'm coming up for air now but plan on going back down for Losing Hope (book #2)

Hopeless - Colleen Hoover

“He spoke five words just now, but in the time it took him to speak those five words, my heart was shredded and minced, then placed back inside my chest with the expectation that it should know how to beat again.”

I am literally exhausted after reading this book. The emotional rollercoaster my body has endured the past two days has been something I never want to forget, please push me to the front of the line again.  I actually feel like the breath has been sucked out of me, my head is spinning and I can’t believe how powerful this book is.  It was unbelievable.  Sky and Six have been neighbors and best friends for the past four years.  Climbing through windows to each other’s room was innocent enough but then they took it a step further and one year later they started to entertain boys in their rooms.  Lots of boys. After being homeschooled, Sky decides to spend her senior year with Six in public school.  Six, signed up for six months as a foreign exchange student so Sky needs to figure out this strange high school on her own. Sky’s reputation follows her and soon her locker becomes a spectacle as students decorate it with colorful remarks and Sky herself is littered with colorful comments. Sky does handle this with grace and I love how she handles herself during this transition.  Grayson, her window-climbing friend is the only familiar face that Sky encounters and she has mixed feeling about him.  Then she runs into Dave.  Oh Dave…with Dave, her world turns upside down and her thoughts become worthless. It’s like with the most perfect brownie that comes out of the oven, melting on your tongue, you don’t want to swallow it as it melts, and you want the taste and the sensation to last forever. Oh, the sensation and the chemistry between these two. They have this connection from the get-go and he is so emotional and at first, Dave is so angry and violent, I am fearful for Sky.  I read faster as I am fearful of what occur but I don’t want to miss any details of this deep infatuation that has occurred so rapidly between the two of them.  It is when Dave and Sky finally take time to talk that Dave’s emotions calm down and the intensity of their feelings and their relationship skyrockets. Wow, talk about passion and crazy love!  I am not going to give you any spoilers but I will tell you that it is when they are visualizing and talking about their future something so fierce unfolds and opens up their world and takes their relationship to another level.

This book is terrific on so many levels.  There is something about Dave I hate at first, he was so evil and angry that I thought he was possessive at first and I wanted to tell Sky to run, run, run! Then something triggered in him and he became nice and affectionate towards her and then I was thinking split-personality.  Then I was thinking, oh Sandy….quit thinking too much and enjoy the book so I did. I was enjoying this romance; it was an excellent romance and then wham! I didn’t see that coming, nor the next surprise or the ones following.  The writing was so exceptional and there were pages that I just wanted to highlight and remember because there were so many good quotes and lines that called out to me.  Totally an amazing read!!!

“Let me inform you of something,” he says in a low voice. “The moment my lips touch yours, it will be your first kiss. Because if you’ve never felt anything when someone’s kissed you, then no one’s ever really kissed you. Not the way I plan on kissing you.”
