My Never Ending List

Lailah

Lailah - Nikki Kelly

It started out so innocently, girl meets boy, boy is vampire and girl tries to help him which casts her into a whole different world where her visions and memories multiple and unravel. By the time the book is over, I am completely blown away.   Francesca has had these visions that confused her, appearing out of nowhere, they just seem so real and lifelike. She wonders if they are real or if they were part her imagination. When Francesca discovers Jonah in the forest, she knew she was older than 17 and as she meets the rest of Jonah’s clan, she realizes his world might be where she could get the answers she is looking for. There is something about Jonah; he has a boy-bad aspect about him that draws Francesca in. He’s so tempting, so seductive and so inviting that as she gets closer to him, she withdraws like a snake afraid to get bitten. As Francesca learns about the lineages of the first three generations of vampires and about the light and dark side of the world from the clan, we both become aware of where she fits in this new world that she is entering. When Gabriel arrives, she is smitten by his image. Both in reality and in her visions, he is the one she has been looking for. Gabriel sweeps her off her feet with his words, his body and of course his affection but this dude had me sizzling. It seemed that no mattered what he did, she still ached for him but I was not putting up with his nonsense. Francesca is pulled between the two boys as she also tries to figure out her part in this world while her visions surface. This girl has a lot going on. There are parts where I wanted to strangle Francesca as she plays the part of the heroine and then whimpers as if defeated. Stay strong, girl! You knew who you were up against, and you know who are, don’t let them beat you down now. The author does a tremendous job keeping everything intact and explaining all the details in this highly fascinating world, I really appreciated that as the battles ensued.

I received this book from NetGalley and Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group in exchange for an honest opinion. Thank you.
