Tell the Wolves I'm Home

Tell the Wolves I'm Home: A Novel - Carol Rifka Brunt

The year is 1987 and June and her older sister Greta are mourning the loss of their uncle Finn. Their uncle has died from the AIDS virus.  Not much was known about this virus at this time in history which always leads to some radical behaviors.   Finn was a famous artist and before his death he paints a portrait of his two nieces from his apartment.  The story relives those weeks as the girls sit with their uncle as he paints and their mother waits in another room.  As we go forward in time, life has to carry on but so many change and why?  It was such an emotional read, a few times I found myself wiping the tears away.  As I tried to figure out Greta and her trips to the forest and June with her friendship with Toby, they both were drifting apart from each other.  Greta was a great actress but perhaps she was taking it a bit too far?  The story was getting so intense and each character had its own drama and scenario to work out but I thought they all had to be connected, didn’t they?
