Sylvie’s parent’s keep more than just Christmas decorations in their basement. The collection in their basement is strange and bizarre but if you consider where the items came from, these things are quite unique. The Mason’s are known for helping lost souls and they are getting quite a reputation for their work. Troubled individuals ring the Masons at all hours of the day desperately asking for their help. Impatiently stopping by their house or having these demonologists travel the countryside to their homes, they needed freedom. Freedom from the malicious spirits who are haunting their souls, who have no intention of leaving until someone casts them out, the Mason’s have made a name for themselves.
After reading all the great endorsements on the back of this book and the synopsis, I was expecting some incredible creepy novel and what I got was something else. Thinking about a mom and dad casting out evil spirits and them having two children in the household, sounds like some interesting drama. I was confused between the present, the past, and the in-between as Sylvie narrates the story. Too much jumping around for me without a lot of clarification, left me wondering where exactly the time change actually occurred without having to go back and reading what I had just read. It really wasn’t the wording that left me frazzled, as the author had a great story, it was the execution of the story that fell short for me. I wanted to take the book and cut and paste it back it together so it flowed better and then perhaps I would love it. I really loved the ending, I think that was the best part as it all finally came together, it just was a shame I didn’t have that throughout out the whole book.
