Sookie is a waitress and she has been waiting for a vampire for years. Twenty-five and good- looking Sookie has a talent for reading people’s thoughts which she is able to block out when she wants. In a roomful of people it gets difficult for her to figure out who said what and she can only read their thoughts if they are thinking about the topic so sometimes if she doesn’t block it off, it can get really noisy inside her head. One night, her dream comes true and Bill comes in. Sookie knows right away he’s a vampire and she doesn’t waste any time. She is not able to read Bill’s thoughts and she likes that, the silence soothes her. Vampires are finally moving into the area and some of the citizens do not like their new neighbors. There has been a rash of recent killing and people are pointing fingers. Bill has his group of vampires that have their own business and when they mix with the likes of Sookie, watch out.
This is a fast-paced book with lively characters. I didn’t know what to expect when I started this book as I haven’t read that many vampire stories but this story went so fast and I enjoyed how the vampires lived with the humans. There were so many little unique ideas that struck me as fun and witty that I enjoyed reading about inside this story: ordering blood, vampires nest and having a relationship with a vampire. It was a fun read.
