"He made me uncomfortable and comfortable, restless and calm, annoyed and entertained - all at the same time."
I was very excited to read this book as the jacket of the book caught my eye and the synopsis was very intriguing. Lorrie is starting back at Arrownhead College following the tragic death of both of her parents. She is trying to get her life back on track but when she falls into TeeWee Lake and is rescued by Hunter, her life just became complicated. Hunter, is a cage fighter and he is known on campus for “shagging and tagging” the females he encounters. As Lorrie and Hunter get to know each other there is this flirtation that dances between the two of them and you can almost see the sparks fly. Lorrie has mixed feeling about being in a relationship as she doesn’t want all the drama and she pulls and pushes Hunter like a yo-yo on a string. It is almost frustrating at times at the way she draws him in and then later rejects him. Hunter is all tattoos and muscles and for Lorrie to reject him while all the other girls on campus are drooling over him and calling out his name, I have to give the girl some credit. It was exciting reading about Lorrie and Hunter’s relationship as they got to know each other and as they flirted with each other. When Lorrie finally kissed Hunter, she’s worried about the mixed signals she might be giving him as she just wants to have a normal life and is not ready for a relationship yet. This was a turning point in the book and a turning point for me also. The next section of the book was filled with sex, more detailed sex that I thought was necessary for this book. I had to stop reading for a second and remember what type of book I was actually reading. The first part of the book was flirtatious and had a few mentions of seductive play but now what I was reading was really detailed and just did not seem to fit into this book. I have nothing against this type of writing, and the author did a great job handling this steaming section of the book but I felt like I was reading two different genres. The ending of the book was written just like the beginning with just instances of seductive play thrown in throughout the pages. It was nothing like the middle of the book. It was like I had done some time-traveling to an erotic place in the middle of my book which just did not flow for me. There was a super story within the pages of this book and the author had it all there but she lost me in the middle when she slammed me with some action that came out of nowhere. As Lorrie and Hunter try to figure out their relationship, they both come to the realization that they both have issues they need to deal with. How they deal with these issues effects their relationship. I really did enjoyed the author’s style of writing, I actually enjoyed both her styles….I just didn’t think they meshed together in this book. Would I read another one of Priscilla West books? Sure, I just hoped that things flowed a bit more smoothly. I like surprises, just nothing like what I experienced in Wrecked.
Thank you NetGalley for supplying me a copy of this book to review.
