George the Hero Hound
This is a cute story about a hound dog named George who thought he had a good life as he helped the farmer around the farm and napped in the afternoon. When the farmer retired and left everything behind including George, he wasn’t prepared for the new family who bought the farm and moved in.
The Gladstone family came from the city and they would definitely need George’s help as they learned their way around the farm. George has his work cut out for him as he tried to keep the cows from escaping and as he helped this family of 4 navigate their way in their new surroundings. It’s a funny story until one day when George tries to catch some shuteye and he notices a blue ribbon by his favorite sleeping spot. The boy who was supposed to be watching his younger sister, has now ran off. It’s a good thing that George is a hound dog!
With bright, colorful illustrations this picture book is a joy to read. George is a wonderful character; the Gladstone family is lucky to have him and George just wishes the farmer would have told the new owners his name before he left. Besides the point where George is left behind by the farmer, I thought this was an excellent book to read.
