Such a fun book about friendship. Boof’s best friend is a red leaf. Now, Boof is a bear and red leaf is a red leaf. They do everything together until one day, red leaf blows away Boof runs off to get him as he floats away in the sky. Pine (the porcupine) literally runs into Boof who is now sitting down in the forest. Boof was really upset and he had sat down as he didn’t know where to look for his best friend. After Boof explains what happened (with tears) to Pine, Pine tells Boof that he will help him locate his friend because he is very good at finding things and he also has a lucky compass. The pictures are comical and so is Pine as he is smart little guy but also because he really has no idea where to look next. With Boof onboard, the two of them start to look for red leaf. Be ready to laugh as the two of them get into some sticky situations hunting down red leaf as Pine is determined to help connect Boof with red leaf again, no matter what happens.
I liked how Pine immediately jumps in to help Boof and he stops at nothing to help his new friend. Boof’s facial expressions look so hopeless as he looks for red leaf and then at the end, everyone is all smiles. I really enjoyed the illustrations, I think they sold the book for me. They were hilarious, so extreme for some of the situations they were in. The second to last illustration of Pine and Boof with the camp fire was really funny if you look at their heads. This is a fun book, I think.
