It literally gave me chills, even breaking out into tears as I read about Layken and Will and the rollercoaster their lives were enduring. I thought Slammed was a fantastic read but this sequel…..I was not prepared for. If you missed Slammed, I suggested you read that one first and then pick this one up immediately as you don’t want to miss a thing. Written from Will’s perspective, this book will leave you breathless. Layken and Kel are dealing with their mother dying (Julia) and Will and Caulder are still the neighbors across the street. The kids are best friends and Will and Layken are still an item. A new neighbor Kiersten is just a riot, with her mature personality and what a vocabulary! Adding in her witty, enlightening words-of-wisdom you just never know what this kid might say. Her take on swear words has everyone thinking and the term “butterflying” emerged – I think I also just found a new word. Slam poetry is still going strong and they are widening the circle, bringing their friends to the show as more people want to get involved. A person from Will’s past makes an appearance and this throws Will’s and Layken’s relationship into turmoil. An instance wall is built between the two and it was just devastating to see. Love is based on trust and honesty and Will and Layken have to figure this out as their relationship moves forward. How can Will get through to Layken when her wall is so tall? It was such a powerful and gripping ending.
