Sophie thinks of herself as a shy person but I think of her as someone who has no one to be connected with. Pablo enters the picture and Sophie finally has someone she can connect with and she is needed. Pablo is the illegal immigrant that Sophie's parents take care of since the rest of the immigrants did not make the trip successfully. A business card found in the pants pocket of the immigrants laid this responsibility in their hands. Pablo is taken back to Mexico to his hometown to see his only living relatives and Sophie is one of the individuals who take this daring trip across the Mexican borders with her aunt, Dika. The other main characters in this story is Sophie's aunt boyfriend Mr. Lorenzo and his son Angel. They accompany Sohphie to Mexico and encounter some issues which Sophie has to help solve. Since Lorenzo and Angel are from Mexico they also need to solve some issues of their own in Mexico (family jewels, Angels' mother). Sophie learns to overcome her fears of everything and stand on her own two feet. Was a fast moving book and did have some Spanish in it but for the most part, the author explained it or you could figure it out. Sophie had always figured herself out to be a loser but I don't think she ever gave herself a chance and who has a relationship with Angel in this book? The question is who stays in Mexico- Pablo and/or Angel and who returns to the U.S.?
