My Never Ending List

Once Upon a River

Once Upon a River - Bonnie Jo Campbell I was hooked after about the third chapter and then I could not put the book down. I actually was crying by the time the book ended and was so proud of Margo and her accomplishments. I didn't want the book to end and was disappointed that it ended where it did: what happened to Margo? Did she ever have a good relationship with men? So many other questions I have but I don't want to spoil the book. There was a underlining theme in the book about relationships as Margo makes her way to adulthood living off the land. I don't want to spoil the book but there are many sexual encounters for Margo and it isn't until later that Margo relizes that it's okay to say no. I feel for Margo that she had no adult female to talk to and support her but she was a strong person and she did great.Bonnie did a great job explaining in detail the emotions that Margo was feeling as she was encountering the daily work on the river. There were times when Margo was cleaning her kills and I felt I was right there beside her with the intestines of the rabbits on the ground. Good to read a book where the girl can shoot a gun and have a happy ending. Excellent read!!!
