My Never Ending List

Fall for Anything

Fall for Anything - Courtney Summers She’s numb. Eddie’s been numb since her father committed suicide and she just can’t seem to get past it and why should she. She wants answers, should she have seen the signs that led to her father’s fatal death? No one seems to understand her except her friend Milo and Eddie doesn’t really feel he gets it either. Then she meets Culler, an apprentice of her father’s but how can that be? She knew nothing of his part in her father’s life or did she really know her father or was she really listening to her father all this time. The two of them begin a journey of discovery that I felt started off strong but disappointed me in the end. I really wanted something more, a big bang at the end, a big moment for both of them but I myself didn’t get that. What I got was quiet, slow, crinkling paper-turning and closure. The story was all wrapped up but after being so twisted up in the drama, I was deflated. It just ended. Everything was explained, put forth in words and periods, commas and quotations added and it was over. Did the characters grow, I think so. Did I enjoy the book, well sure to a point and then, well….I made up my own ending. The determination of Eddie and her relationship with Milo was written with warmth and spirit and with the introduction of Culler, he added a deep and mysterious level to the book. Eddie seems so sad yet no one comes to her rescue except Milo and her mother is no help- she is basically dead also.Favorite quote- we all can relate to this sometime is our lives: “After he gets out of the car and after I get out of the car, he gets to go back to his home and not think about any of this and I want to ask him, do you know how lucky you are to get a break from my life? I would love a break from my life, but I have to stay in it, endlessly on play. The sun rises and sets, a day that never stops. So pause. I have to pause when I can. This is a pause. Stay in the car. Pause.”
