My Never Ending List

Coraline

Coraline - Neil Gaiman Oh, what to say about a book that I have mixed feeling about. I loved the plot of the story and the characters had me roped in but all along I had this love/hate relationship going on inside me. What caused this turmoil? It was the cover of the book and then the coloful insert that had pictures of the animated movie with captions that reminded me that I really dispise these types of movies. Yes, I do love animated movies. I love Peter Pan, love Toy Story, and I love Shrek but The Nightmare Before Christmas movie with its outlandish animation, I do not and this book found its way into this category. So, as I look beyond the cartoonism of this book (it was hard) I found a story of a girl who longed for something different. A girl who thought her life could be better "if only" and she got a taste for what that life might be like. The adventure she took was a fun and brave journey that a child could only dream about taking and experiencing and have the outcome that Coraline has. Sure I was glad that I read it but no, I don't plan on seeing the movie. I'll pass.
