3.5 starsMy first book by Michael Robotham and I have mixed reviews about this book. I loved the idea behind the book, the characters added the right dimension and the twists and turns were very good but I did not feel the adrenalin rush through my body as I read this book as I thought it should. The story began three years ago when two teenagers went missing. Piper and Tash are thought to have runaway and most people believe that they are dead. When their case was hot, people were investigated, the area was searched and all leads were followed through but nothing turned up. Their families never gave up but they had nothing to go on so they cling to the possibility that they will eventually come home someday. Present day: a set of murders has occurred in the same area where Piper and Tash disappeared and is also the house where Tash once lived. The town is shaken when a suspect is questioned and then the story starts to roll. The police bring in a psychologist who reinvestigates the disappearance of Piper and Tash and he starts to shed some new light on the two cases. His words upset a few people but the truth can hurt but it is also meant to set people free physically and spiritually. With a killer on the loose and a psychologist thinking that the two cases might be linked, where is Piper and Tash and who is safe is this town? With all this occurring in the book, I expected to be flipping through this book in record speed but I just did not do that. The book fell flat on the excitement and adrenalin factors and it wasn’t until the last 100 pages that I couldn’t put the book down (431 page book). The chapters are alternated between the present day story and words written by Piper. I liked reading it this way, as I got to see what actually happened to the teenagers from the time of their disappearance to the end of the book. I was also able to read about the present day investigation and see how the two of the cases might be related.
