This isn't the book I thought it would be, yet I am deeply wrapped up inside this woman's medical nightmare. She sites the case of a H.M. Molaison who at the age of 7 was struck by a bicycle and started to experience seizures. Finally at the age of 27, the doctors removed his hippocampus for which his seizures finally went away which was terrific but H.M could no longer create any memories. The only memories he retained were those from the age 25 to 27. Failure to create any new memories, H.M always thought of himself as being in his twenties even when he aged into his 80's. Imagine not creating new memories and thinking every day you were in your twenties ( I mean for real, not because you want to believe you're not aging). Moments like these.....I just have to take a minute and think.
