My Never Ending List

Night of the Howling Dog by Graham Salisbury

Night of the Howling Dogs - Graham Salisbury

I think this would make a wonderful book to read to a child. Great suspense with an excellent story line captures the focus of a group of boy scouts out in a remote part of an island. They’re enjoying the scenery, settling into the rustic routines that will be a part of their lives for the next few days. Some of the boys are uncertain of their fellow campers, while others are just learning the ropes; it definitely a mixed bunch. The adults in the group try to set up boundaries but the boys push the limits, testing the limitations to see how far those spoken words hold true. The older boys see two dogs; these dogs are following them as they move about and set up camp. As a group of cowboys settle amongst the scouts to fish, the cowboys tell a story about Masa. Masa, a goddess who takes a form of a white dog. Not a legend, this story is a warning that the scouts should take serious. These cowboys are an interesting bunch and I loved all their stories that they shared with the scouts. The rest of the scout’s trip will definitely earn them some type of a badge as it is non-stop excitement. Makes me want to sleep with my shoes on.
