Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes

Pete The Cat: I Love My White Shoes - Eric Litwin, James Dean

This book is perfect if you have a child who gets upset if things do not turn out perfectly or if they don’t like to get messy as Pete the Cat learns to go with the flow of things. He loves his new white shoes and as he’s singing a song walking down the street, he steps into a variety of substances that turn his brand new white shoes different shades of colors. First they’re red, then blue, then they turn brown and in the end Pete the Cat ends up with wet shoes. Pete the Cat doesn’t get mad each time his shoes change color, ”goodness, no!” he just changes the words to his song as he marches down the street with his head held high. The text asks the readers’ questions to keep them engaged in the story and when you add that to the variety of the font sizes and styles, to this upbeat story you have yourself an entertaining read. The illustrations are bright and although Pete the Cat’s facial expressions do not change, it’s his eyes, those mustard-colored eyes that drew me in. He’s hip, he’s Pete the Cat.
