My Never Ending List

Can you really disappear? A thriller I couldn't put down.

The Shadow Tracer - Meg Gardiner

How far would you go to protect your child? What if that child was really not your biological child and you were keeping this knowledge a secret from them? This is the case with Sarah Keller and Zoe as she raises Zoe as her own and they live their lives on top of the grid. In the opening pages of this thriller, Sarah rescues Zoe from her sister’s burning house.  As an infant, Zoe’s mother desperately wants Sarah to run away with Zoe and keep her safe.  As the story unfolds, Sarah has become the ideal mother and they have formed a tight mother-daughter bond.  As a skip-tracer, Sarah has learned how to avoid the system and how she ended up with Zoe. Sarah has lots of connections but who to trust has become another issue. With law enforcement, FBI, prophets, the Mafia, cult members, and angels the book pulls you through till the final pages. Zoe is only five but she is far from being a child, she just might be one of the angels.   “Inside the dark. It’s far away, but it’s coming.”

The first chapter had me hooked. I am glad that my husband was driving through Illinois so that gave me the chance to read this whole book in one setting. Usually I ask him if he wants me to drive part of the way, but not after I got absorbed into this book.  Sarah kept their lives unconnected to anything as she knew the system and she knew how not to leave a trail which made the book more interesting.  After the bus crash, that sent Zoe to the hospital the whole book started to spread out and get more twisted.  I thought Lawless and his two women were an interesting bunch, just their names alone made them stand out.  How they conducted themselves and their actions made them fascinating characters.  One book you will have a hard time putting down.
