My Never Ending List

Ole! I loved this picture book! Great story and the pictures were fun.

Chicks and Salsa - Aaron Reynolds, Paulette Bogan

Okay, I loved it! I have to admit I love a book that thinks outside the box and this one definitely did.  The chickens started it all with getting tired of their chicken feed and the rooster took it upon himself to tackle the problem.  After watching TV on the fence outside of Mrs. Nuthatcher window, the rooster decides he's going to help the chickens make salsa. Out to the garden the rooster and chickens march, pulling up tomatoes and onions and later than evening, they dine on salsa. Hummm, "nobody was quite certain where the chickens got the chips." I really enjoyed the bits of satire in the book and old rooster demeanor.  The chickens loved their Mexican but that just sets off a chain reaction as other animals smell that enticing odor and yep.....the rooster is helping other animals make something great to eat.  With so much Mexican cuisine being prepared, Rooster decides to get the whole barnyard together. It will be a big party, something grand. Is the farm ready for such an event?
The pictures inside are bright, bold and comical just to look at. Some mice are accompanied in the book doing a variety of different things and are fun to locate such as sporting some shades and taking money at the door. I smile now just thinking about some of the pictures: the pig eating the chile pepper, the bull dancing, the ducks in the pond.  What a great find! Ole!!
