The Gruffalo

The Gruffalo - Julia Donaldson, Axel Scheffler

Who wouldn’t love to eat a mouse? If you lived in a forest, a owl, a snake or fox would love to get their hands on a tasty mouse but if there is a gruffalo nearby, there is no way a gruffalo would let these animals eat a mouse. The gruffalo which mouse describes is one terrible creature that looks horrible and likes to make a meal out of these other forest animals so they better leave mouse alone. Mouse sure has everyone fooled about his gruffalo, this imaginary creature that he created on his own. He thought he was smart tricking these forest creatures until he starts walking home and runs into a huge beast whose name is none other than Gruffalo.   Gruffalo thinks that mouse looks tasty but mouse decides to take him on a walk meeting the animals of the forest once again. What a surprise the animals get when they see Gruffalo and mouse together. It’s a fun book with a cleaver mouse leading the way.

I think the text and the script were fun to read. There seems to be a repetitiveness nature to the book as mouse shows his talent. The gruffalo was a fun character, both in his illustration and in his text. The mouse a clever, cunning character makes this book a great success.
