My Never Ending List

Mug Shot

Mug Shot: A Java Jive Mystery - Caroline Fardig

There was never a dull moment in this novel. It was not an edge-of-your-seat suspenseful mystery but more of a fun-filled mystery that was filled with wit and vigor.   An unfortunate murder has taken place but that did not leave the characters in this story agonizing over their misery, no these characters sprang into action with their humorous activities and their amusing tactics to get to the heart of the matter. I enjoyed the character of Jules, the Red Headed She-Devil, as she tries to play detective to help her friend avoid prosecution. The police are not happy that Jules is conducting her own investigation but she feels that they are not doing their job. Her personality and her commitment to her friend are like a rolling rock going down a hill.   She was on fire and once she got going, she has a hard time stopping.   The comments that were coming off her lips were hilarious at times and some of the situations that she found herself in were priceless.

Pete has been Jules best friend for years and Pete’s girlfriends feels intimidated by this relationship. Being her manager at the coffee shop, Jules spends a lot of time with Pete and there is something about this relationship, it borderline more than a friendship. Jules has been fixated on Ryder and now that she is doing her own investigative work, the two of them are running into each other more frequently.   Jules feels that she knows who she would like to have a relationship with but as I read, I felt as if Jules was riding the fence on this. It felt to me as if Jules was uncertain as to what she was actually looking for in a man. I enjoyed this option that Jules was toying with. I liked that there were not a huge amount of characters inside this novel but enough that you knew you were dealing with a small town, a town in which everyone knew each other’s business. Just when I thought the novel was starting to wind down, things starting to pick up again and excitement flooded through the pages.   I enjoyed this novel, much more than I thought I would.

I received this novel from Random House Monthly Mystery in exchange for an honest opinion. This was a Chatterbox opportunity.
