My Never Ending List

Regarding Ruth: (Ruth Chernock Series)

Regarding Ruth - Kim Scott Oh Ruth! Totally devoted to this novel, nothing else mattered to me but what happened to Ruth and the saga that surrounded her community. Although it was the mid 1700’s when this story takes place, I was consumed by the slang and the countryside that I felt I was a part of Ruth’s drama. Ruth is in love infatuated with Teague. Teague was the boy who promised to be Ruth’s husband and this is where Ruth’s world started to slip away. Being only 15 years-old, Ruth has a hard time dealing with her feelings and she goes through a lot of issues for a young girl. Whether her mind is troubled or there are other issues is something for the reader to decide but Ruth’s life is far from easy. Living in a small community, everyone knows each other and talk runs wild. Ruth is also learning to become a midwife so we are introduced to many people in the community who become a part of Ruth’s life. Many ups and downs on the road as I followed Ruth on her path, one day she finally pays the consequences for her actions.I adored this book! I could not get enough of Ruth and the community that she dwelled in. I don’t want to add much about what happens to Ruth as I don’t want to ruin the book but the book definitely has a lot of action and drama. There were a lot of characters in the book since you are dealing with a community of people but the main characters were not that hard to keep track of. The language took me a bit to get accustomed to but eventually it just rolled off my tongue. As I reading the book, I was giving my husband a narrative of what was happening as I could not believe all the drama taking place. The tension and emotions were real and the characters were just what I would have imagined. I am going shopping for book #2.
